Sony Screen Gems Begins Developing ‘Quarantine 2′
May 30th, 2009 — From The Feeds
We got a little scoop to get you through another slow weekend. Word has come into Bloody-Disgusting that Sony Screen Gems has officially started development on Quarantine 2, the sequel to the box office success from last October that grossed over 30m here in the States. The first film was a nearly shot-for-shot remake of the Spanish horror film [REC] (arriving on DVD this July from Sony), while we're being told that Screen Gems is looking for a totally original pitch for the sequel. Filmax is in post-production on their own sequel to [REC] that's slated for release later this year in Spain.

aka Timecrimes
Another clever filmmaker. This Spanish sci-fi thriller has only four characters, few locations and lots of time travel. Fun story to watch unfold, but you'll get a headache trying to sort out the details and the behavior of some characters.

Tony Scott CONFIRMS ‘Alien’ Remake/Prequel
May 29th, 2009 — From The Feeds
Website Collider confirmed today with Tony Scott our exclusive breaking news that Carl Rinsch will be getting behind the camera for 20th Century Fox's reboot of the Alien franchise started back in '79 by Ridley Scott. It was also confirmed that the reboot is being pinned as a "prequel" (even though we all know damn well it's still a reboot). In the original, the terror begins when the crew of a spaceship investigates a transmission from a desolate planet, and discovers a life form that is perfectly evolved to annihilate mankind. One by one, each crew member is slain until only Ripley is left, leading to an explosive conclusion that sets the stage for its stunning sequel, Aliens (my favorite film of all-time). Click here to talk about it.

Paul Verhoeven - who directed tons of high profile pics including Total Recall, RoboCop, Basic Instinct, Starship Troopers and Hollow Man - is coming back to America as the Dutch director, who most recently helmed his native-tongued Black Book, has come aboard to develop and direct The Surrogate, a thriller for 20th Century Fox. Based on the 2004 book by Kathryn Mackel, the story centers on a couple desperate to have a child who find themselves in an unbearable position when they find out the surrogate they hired to carry their baby is insane. The project originally was set up at Fox Atomic but moved to Fox proper when Atomic was shuttered. Debbie Liebling, who ran Atomic, is overseeing Surrogate. Roderick Taylor and Bruce Taylor wrote the original draft.
