Jul 31, 90′s Freak Show With Deformed Teens and Cartoonish Special Effects

I remember seeing a movie in the early- to mid-90's about a carnival freak show. Some teenagers go to the carnival, and end up becoming part of the

Jul 31, Young Woman Stalked in Campus Library by Old Devil Woman

Can you help me remember the name of this film? A young woman is found by students in the roots of an oak tree under an old house. They take her back

Ridley Scott Returns to Direct ‘Alien’ Prequel!!!

Remake, reboot? Think none of it. 20th Century Fox is proving that they're producing an honest-to-God prequel to Alien by tapping Ridley Scott to direct. Scott directed the groundbreaking 1979 sci-fi horror movie that proclaimed "In space no one can hear you scream." It spawned three sequels and two spin-offs. If there's one way to win over the fans, it's to bring the original helmer back onboard with his blessings. Read on for the amazing news. Could this be the start of something new at Fox? Can we start praying now?

B-D Reviews: A Positive Weekend Thanks to ‘The Collector’ and ‘Thirst’

After a summer of crap and more crap, this weekend there is not one, but TWO movies that you really must see. The first is Freestyle Releasing's The Collector, "Its no shock that working on the past three SAW films has influenced the duo, and it shows in THE COLLECTOR, a raw, gritty and uncompromising horror film that puts the previous SAW film to shame." In addition, NY and LA theatergoers will have a chance to see Park Chan-wook's (Oldboy) vampire comedy Thirst in theaters. "At the hands of a less competent director, THIRST could have been an abomination, but thankfully Chan-wook delivers something above par that should probably be met with two cans of Red Bull." You can click the titles above for the full reviews and to write your own reviews to tell all of Bloody-Disgusting what YOU thought. Get on it now as your reviews will show to the right of the front page.

Queen of the Damned

Amazing soundtrack. Amazingly bad film. I could never get into Anne Rice's novels, but "Interview with the Vampire" was a fairly entertaining adaptation. Hmmm. Maybe "bad" is the wrong word. How about cheap? I believe the budget for this sequel was half of the original, 35 million. Going from Tom Cruise to Stuart Townsend saved the studio a couple bucks, but probably hurt them in the long run. And the late Aaliyah Haughton as Akasha, was the result of stunt casting more than her acting ability -- a trend that continues...

TV: HBO Renews ‘True Blood’ for Third Season

Sometimes I like to wait a few seasons before diving into a new show, especially since many of them are canceled before completing their first season. If you're on the fence about picking up the first season of HBO's "True Blood", there are no more excuses as a third season has just been given the ol' thumbs up. "Blood" has managed to increase its audience with nearly every episode, giving the network its most-watched show since "The Sopranos." The first season is now available on Blu-ray and DVD at a retailer near you, while season two is airing now on HBO.

Interviews from the Set of ‘Slime City Massacre’

A whole bunch of interviews have popped up online from Slime City Massacre, the sequel to the popular indie film Slime City. The down and dirty sequel focuses on four squatters, fighting to survive in post holocaust New York City, who discover Zachary Devon's elixir and Himalayan yogurt int he ruins of his soup kitchen. All four characters are possessed by Zachary and members of his suicide cultm and absolute mayhem ensues! The film will be a celebration of 1970s cinema nihilism and 1980s latex spaltter flicks. Featuring an all out war between Slime Heads, homeless people, cannibals and merceneries, Lamberson promises this film will be wilder and crazier than the original.

Fylmar Productions Saves ‘Wreckage’

Producers Jordan Yale Levine and Franco Sama through their Fylmar Productions shingle has stepped in and raised the final capital needed to save the indie, horror, thriller, Wreckage and will enter the film as executive producers on the project. For more on the problems and what the future hold for the project, read on.

Last week the San Diego Comic Con hosted a special 3-D event where they premiered footage from all of the 3-D films arriving in theaters this year and next, one such film was New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. Pictures' The Final Destination. After the event, B-D caught up with Producer Craig Perry who talked exclusively about the difficulties in keeping the franchise fresh, while also hinting that he has a special idea for a fifth film, assuming there is ever real talk of one. Read on for thre skinny and don't forget that YOU can talk directly to Mr. Perry yourself over at the official Final Destination Group page right here on Bloody-Disgusting. Laurie Strode Takes a Beating in New ‘Halloween II’ Image

This afternoon MySpace hosted a brand new image from Rob Zombie's Halloween II, which features Laurie Strode (Scout Taylor-Compton) covered in blood. Dimension Films has decided to take the film up against Warner Bros. Pictures' The Final Destination on August 28th. Two R-rated horror films, both a major franchise, who will win? Death or Michael Myers?

a few of my favorite zombies

The recent passing of Clayton Hill ("Sweater Zombie" from George Romero's Dawn of the Dead) has got me thinking about all those undead folk who've made an impression over the years. They (usually) don't speak and they're often one of a thousand walking corpses trying to eat the ragtag group of survivors, but we remember them regardless. Actually, horror fans don't simply remember these zombies, we celebrate them. Be honest, horror nerds- if a woman were to come up to you on the street and say "I was Majorette Zombie!" you'd know exactly who she was, right? And you'd be psyched to meet her, you know it...although you'd wonder why she felt the need to approach you and boast of her claim to fame a propos of nothing.

Here are a few of my favorite American Rotties.

1. Nameless Zombie (Dawn of the Dead '04)

She died without a name, which is sad. Then she came back to life and hauled ass trying to put the bite on Sarah Polley, which is understandable but not very nice. I like to pretend it's actually Dame Edith Massey as a zombie, which is a dream of mine that sadly will never be- at least never in the fictional sense. I suppose if there should ever be a zombie apocalypse, then the late Massey will rise from the grave. I won't know how to feel.

2. Softball Zombie (Land of the Dead)

She seems kind of depressed and sort of nice, but in the end I doubt if she'd want to be friends.

3. Cirque du Zombay (Night of the Living Dead '90)

I wonder how that happened. To be frank, he's probably better off undead.

4. Graveyard Zombie (Night of the Living Dead '68)

The one that started it all, and one of my absolute most favoritest. The fact that he really was coming to get Barbra is what's known as ironicalosity.

5. Ghetto Zombie (Dawn of the Dead '78)

If only for the hair and laid-back attitude.

6. Dr. Tongue (Day of the Dead '85)

Total gross-out icon. Great title sequence. I love Day of the Dead.

7. Nurse Zombie & Sweater Zombie (Dawn of the Dead)

If you watch Dawn of the Dead and pay close attention, you'll see that Sweater Zombie really gets around- he's outside doing his thing, then he's taking a ride on the escalator, then he's back outside with his partner-in-crime (and off-screen wife) Nurse Zombie (Sharon Ceccatti). You have to admire his moxie and his sweater vest.

8. Toothy Zombie (Day of the Dead)

Toothy is one of the zombies corralled by the evil Army dudes so Dr. Logan can get his experimentation on- in other words, she's one of those zombies that gets the audience asking "OMG, who are the real monsters here? Is it us? I'm not sure. I mean, we're not trying to eat anybody, but on the other hand, we're jerks..." Her "every other chomper" look totally influenced the zombie designs in my comic They Won't Stay Dead!- those janky teefs are how you know they're zombies!

9. Bug Eating Zombie (Night of the Living Dead)

Proving that zombies are grosser than we'd initially realized, Bug Eating Zombie plucks a bug off a tree and gulps it down- as...you know...her name suggests. Did you know that Bug Eating Zombie is portrayed by hot piece Marilyn "Mrs. Cooper" Eastman? It's true. Dazzle your friends with trivia!

10. Bub (Day of the Dead)

Duh.

11. Silent Movie Zombie (Night of the Living Dead)

I. Love. Him. I love how he totally overacts when the fire is waved in his face...but what I love even more is that after he overcomes his fear of the flames, Silent Movie Zombie gets irritated by them. He RULES.

12. Nathan Grantham (Creepshow)

Nathan Grantham is an anomaly in the zombie world- he can talk! He has a motivation for killin' beyond simple hunger! Best of all, he rises from the grave- I really wish we'd see more of that in zombie cinema.

Something just occurred to me. Let's think about what Grantham did after he decapitated poor old Aunt Sylvia, shall we, because he did a lot: he put her head on a tray. He found the frosting, then went in the silverware drawer for a knife. He frosted her head very carefully, then went searching for candles. After cramming them into her head, somehow (let's be honest, it probably took a while to get them to stay standing), he got matches or a lighter and lit them all. And he had to time all of this very carefully in order to surprise Cass and Richard as they approached the door! What a go-getter.

So, who's the most memorable zombie to you? Machete Zombie? Naked Zombie? Your mom?

Ha ha, I made that last one up.

Or did I?

Demons Rise in Marc Selz’s ‘Satanic Panic’

The boys over at Dread Central have posted the first images from Marc Selz's Satanic Panic, which feature a look at a demon from the low budget indie film. Satanic Panic is inspired by true accounts and the craze that took place in the late 1970's and early 1880's and follows in the footsteps of classic horror films from that generation. In 1980 ten-year-old twins Toby and Cindy Richards were abducted by a group of demented satanic cult members. Cindy managed to escape, but Toby was never found. Twenty-five years later, a group of six friends take a canoe trip to re-kindle their friendship, only to find themselves in trouble with crazy, small town locals and the same satanic cult that took Toby years ago. Can the friends make it out of the town of Thornwood alive and in one piece, or will they become victims of sacrifice?
