C.H.U.D. Remake Becomes ‘Urban Decay’?

Although I can't say we're exclusive on this one, along with another horror website we have received some casting sides for an upcoming horror pic entitled Urban Decay, which we might have tossed aside had the other site not made a curious observation - a reference to C.H.U.D.s in the script! For example: "A CHUD plants its mutated claws into the businessman's face! Dragging him back into the darkness; SCREAMING, CHUDS swarming from the shadows..." It hasn't been confirmed yet if this is in fact a remake to the classic '80s horror pic C.H.U.D., but we'll keep you posted as we discover more.

Lionsgate FINALLY Releases ‘The Eye 3’ From Japan

The third film in the successful film franchise from the renowned Pang Brothers (Infernal Affairs), The Eye 3 has been called "one of the best Asian horror flicks this year". Arriving the same month as the American remake of the first film on DVD, The Eye starring Jessica Alba, The Eye 3 DVD special features include two featurettes "Ten Ways to See Ghosts" and "The Making of The Eye 3." Some believe that our world is one of many, that our existence is merely an intersection between countless dimensions - known and unknown. We run into strangers we don't see, hum tunes we don't hear. Most of us remain ignorant, but there are always those who are a little different. They would risk everything to find the truth and for the thrill of seeing the other side just once in their lives. In the world of psychics, despite widely different rites and practices, there exists a single mutual void - the Rite of Eight - the last and most powerful resort to make contact with the spiritual world. No one seems to know its origin, but no one doubts its authenticity, because just like any other unsolvable myth, those who go there have never returned to testify.

Apr 1, Oasis of the Zombies Horror Movie Review from BHM: Saving the Naïve.

Oasis of the Zombies makes me think of the old horror gems I forgot I had, because it is most certainly NOT one of them. Maybe I can make up the lost 90 minutes of my life in volume.

Shrooms (2008)

ShroomsReview by Fatally Yours

Shrooms, a gem from the Emerald Isle, proves that Ireland can create a creepy horror film. Director Paddy Breathnach knows how to build an imposing atmosphere with misty moors, murky marshes, wispy woods and a haunted house. The film’s only fault may be the script (written by Pearse Elliott), which feels a little derivative of other horror films at times. Still, the stylish direction and spooky scenes more than make up for the lack of originality in the story.

Five American friends travel together to Ireland, where they meet their friend Jake (Jack Huston), who promises them a “trip” of a lifetime. You see, they’ve come to Ireland not only to see Jake, but to camp out in the Celtic countryside and try some magic mushrooms. They drive to an isolated location in the misty woods, where the only other people around are a pair of slobbery backwoods hillbillies (guess they have ‘em in Ireland too!). They set up camp on a beautifully green meadow next to a marsh and go mushroom hunting. Jake warns them about a potentially lethal species of ‘shroom, one that is crowned with a black top (that looks oddly like a nipple). It is said that anyone who survives eating the deadly mushroom suffers strange side effects. These include being able to commune with the dead, see the future, shape-shift or turn into a sadistic, bloodthirsty killer. (more…)

Book Review: The Ruins by Scott Smith

Scott Smith's The RuinsReview by Fatally Yours

Have you ever become so wrapped up in a book that it consumes you, it won’t let you put it down? Upon the conclusion you’re left slack-jawed and worn out. A few days later, you still can’t shake the feeling and the story continues to eat away at you from the inside out?

Well, having finished Scott Smith’s horror novel The Ruins (in preparation for the upcoming film adaptation), I can attest to those very emotions. Like a vine, The Ruins wraps itself around you, slowly at first, then tightening and tightening its hold so that it is near impossible to put down until the very last page. (more…)
