Perhaps the secret to writing a network worthy pilot is to choose a premise that has been done a thousand times over, add the slightest of tweaks (if any) and then call it day. This was surprisingly weak and rehashed. Even more rehashed than “Moonlightâ€, which is starting to look damned good in comparison. Thought I read somewhere that Amsterdam’s immortality was the result of a curse -- but I guess that would be venturing too far into “Angel†territory. If Native Americans had that kind of magical power, wouldn't they have used it on themselves instead of doling it out to do-gooders? “Moonlight†might be cheesy, but it definitely seems to know its target audience. “New Amsterdam†doesn’t play up the romance angle enough and the procedural cop part was pretty vanilla. The supernatural stuff just sits there. Hard to see this one lasting.
